Stephen Hawking: “God Does Not Exist.”

- in My Mindfulness, My World

Ever since we became sentient beings, man has always been wondering about the creation of the universe. Since time immemorial, man has also believed that the birth of the world needed a specific divine intervention. As the modern technology is coming every day, and the evolution of our analytical ability, it is nearly confirmed that a vast explosion created the cosmos as we observe. However, we still do not have conclusive evidence to prove what has happened prior to a supposed Big Bang.

The Grand Design

Stephen Hawking, one of the sharpest minds of our time, fiercely agreed with the Big Bang theory. However, as the guest of honor at the Starmus Astrophysics Festival, he has created quite a stir by stating that God indeed does not exist. Furthermore, in his book named “The Grand Design,” Hawking states the following:

“The universe started with the Big Bang, which has simply followed the inevitable law of physics. As there is a law such as gravity, the universe can, as well as will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason for the existence of something rather than nothing, why our universe exists, as well as why we exist. The universe didn’t need a God to start; it was also quite capable of launching its existence on its own.”

“There is no God,” wrote Hawking, as reported by CNN. “No one directs the universe.”

A Brief History of Time

In the book named “A Brief History of Time,” Hawking further talks about anticipating a time when everyone would be onboard with the theory, and he says the following:

“If we do discover a complete theory, in time it should be understandable in board principle by everyone, not just a few of the scientists. Then the philosophers, as well as scientists and just ordinary people will be able to take part in the discussion of the question of why it is that we and the universe exist. If we have the ability to find the answer to that, it would actually be the ultimate triumph of human reason – for then we would know the mind of God. But, the question is: is the way the universe starts chosen by God for some reasons that we cannot understand or was it determined by a law of science? I believe the second. So if your life, you can actually call the laws of science ‘God’ but it would not be a personal God that you could meet, as well as ask questions. “

Hawking, considered one of the most brilliant scientists of his generation, died in March 2018 at the age of 76.
