In one video which has been posted by the Big Think, the AI expert named Michael Vassar shares his own belief that the artificial superintelligence will wipe out our humanity if we do not approach AI with significant caution.
In the video, Vassar warns that we need to find some ways of quickly promoting some analytically sound discoveries from those that lack academic prestige if we want to stay one step ahead of AI.
Hearing all voices
Michael Vassar actually became the chief science officer of MetaMed Research in the year of 2012, which he actually co-founded and before that, he served as the president of the Machine Intelligence Research Institute. He knows a thing or two about the artificial intelligence, also known as AI, and now, he has come out with a severe alert for humanity, when it actually comes to the development of artificial superintelligence.
In the video which has been posted by Big Think, Vassar states, “If greater – than – human artificial intelligence is invented without due caution, it is all but certain that the human species will be extinct in a very short period of time.” Essentially, Vassar also warns that an unchecked Al could actually eradicate humanity in the future.
The views of Vassar are based on the writings of Nick Bostrom, more specifically those that have found his book “Superintelligence.” The ideas of Bostrom have been around for decades, but only now, they are gaining some traction that has given his association with prestigious institutions. Vassar actually sees this early lack of attention and not Al itself, as the biggest threat to the humanity. He also argues that we have to find some way of promoting “analytically sound” discoveries from those that lack the prestige currently necessary for the ideas which are going to be heard.
The threat of AI
A lot of tech giant have spoken extensively spoken about their fears, in regards to the development of AI. Elon Musk actually believes that an AI attack on the internet is just a matter of time. Meanwhile, Stephen Hawking cites the creation of AI as “the best or also the worst thing which will happen to humanity.”
The company of Bryan Johnson that was named Kemal is now working on a neuroprosthesis that actually can mimic, as well as repair, and improve human cognition. If it comes to fruition, that tech could actually be a solid defense against the worst case scenario of AI which is going completely rogue. If we have the ability to upgrade our brains to a level which is equal to that expected of AI, we may have the ability to at least stay on par with the machines.
