Some of the most dangerous chemicals and drugs are not drugs at all, but they are our foods and drinks. People think that choosing diet is a healthy decision, but they are probably not aware of the dangerous effects of aspartame.
Nowadays, a lot of people do not question the ingredients in their foods. They automatically assume that diet drinks are healthy for them, just because they have less sugar and calories. Also, there are a lot of people that are not aware that some companies like Coca-Cola and Pepsico replace sugar and calories with ingredients which are not the same but taste similar. Even though their products may be rather tasty, they are horrible for our body.
One of the main ingredients which are in diet soda is aspartame. It is an artificial sweetener to replace the sugar from regular soda. Although it tastes very similar, it is nothing like sugar. Aspartame is a laboratory-engineered chemical which is terrible for our body. It is not just “bad” for us either, but it is a poison. It can triple our risk of stroke and Dementia, according to one new study.
Effects of the Chemicals
Scientists from Boston University performed the study. They have studied over 4,400 different adults to find out the impact of chemicals in diet drinks. The study concluded that adults who have one diet drink per day are three times more at risk of suffering from stroke and dementia. The researchers conducted this study for almost ten years. The daily mail reports that the team concluded that those adults that had more or more diet drinks a day were about 2.9 times more likely to develop dementia and three times more at risk for strokes or some other cardiovascular issues.
A senior fellow in the department of neurology at Boston University School of Medicine, states:
“According to one study, there is a need to put more research into this area given how often people drink artificially sweetened beverages. Even though we did not find an association between stroke or dementia and the consumption of sugary drinks, this certainly does not mean that they are a healthy option.”
“We recommend that people drink more water on a regular basis, instead of some sugary or artificially sweetened beverages.”
The team also urges healthcare professionals to stop promoting diet drinks as a suitable replacement for regular soda. Also, this is not the only study which has been performed on diet drinks and their effects. There are some other findings, revealed by research that was performed by the Imperial College in London. The study was published in the American Heart Association’s Journal Stroke, and it followed about 4.372 adults over the age of 45. Each participant filled out a questionnaire about the daily food and drink intake.
Dr. Rosa Sancho, Head of Research at Alzheimer’s Research UK, in regards to the latest research, said:
“AS people become more and more aware of the consequences of a high – sugar diet, a lot of them are turning to artificially – sweetened diet fizzy drinks as an alternative to those that are with lots of sugar. Future studies will have to confirm these findings in other groups of people, as well as explore what may be underlying any link between artificially – sweetened soft drinks and dementia. “
The director general of the British Soft Drinks Association, named Gavin Partington, disagrees with the empirical data. He commented on the finding, saying the following:
“Despite their claims, the authors of this observational study admit that they haven’t found cause and effect and provide no science – based evidence whatsoever, in order to support their theories. Nowadays, based on the evidence that Public Health England has, it is actively encouraging companies for foods and drinks to low – calorie sweeteners instead of sugar, so in that way, they will help people to manage their weight as well.”
We would recommend anyone that drinks diet drinks to stop and make a different decision on beverages immediately. If you already want to choose diet beverages, you need to be health conscious. But, little did you even know that diet drinks are the direct opposite of healthy decision. So, if you decide to cut out sodas, you will experience relief from headaches and migraines as well. But, if you are a sufferer of a frequent headaches or migraines, the reason may be your diet soda habit. One study from 2013, conducted on animals found that rats that drink diet soda had damaged cells and nerve endings in the cerebellum, which is the part of the brain that is responsible for motor skills. You will also have more sensitive buds, as well as weight loss, strengthened bones, and you will even handle booze better. That is amazing!
The next time when you are tempted by diet soda, you should remember all those deadly effects the sweeteners have on your body. If it can clear clogged drainage pipe, it is probably not good for your digestive system.
